Are you ready for calmer you (and calmer children too)?

When I started teaching yoga and mindfulness to children in schools here in France, I learned quite quickly that it really helped them to focus if they moved their bodies first. And, it turns out, it helps me a lot too.

In this short meditation, you will grow from a seed to a tall, strong, tree.

You can either lie down and imagine yourself growing or, if you want to move, start off on the ground and slowly rise up as you grow bigger and bigger.

Episode Transcript:

I am a little seed safe in the ground.
I breathe in the warmth of the sun
and get water from rain
and I start to grow up.

I am a little sprout with a tiny leaves.
I breathe in the warmth of the sun
and get water from rain
and I grow even more.

I am a strong tree, my roots planted firmly in the ground.
I breathe in the warmth of the sun
and get water from rain
and I grow even bigger.

I am a strong tall tree.
My branches stretch way out towards the sky.
I breathe in the warmth of the sun
and get water from rain
and sway in the wind.

I breathe in the warmth of the sun
and get water from rain
and I sway in the wind.

I breathe in the warmth of the sun
and get water from the rain
and I sway in the wind.

One more deep breath in from my branches to my roots.
And one more breath out from my roots to my branches.

I am strong.
I am calm.
I am me.

But, messy can be good.

To paraphrase Mrs. Frizzle, it means you’re taking chances, making mistakes, and learning.

Creative Spirit, Playful Discipline is a mini-podcast – a playcast! – for parents who want to embrace their uniqueness, shatter the “shoulds”, and find a rallying cry for their families so they can create fun, magically messy memories to last a lifetime.
