Ho’oponopono is a traditional Hawaiian prayer for forgiveness. It’s a way to cut the cords between thoughts, experiences, or even people that are causing you pain.

Heading into reconfinement 3.0 like it's 2020! W Heading into reconfinement 3.0 like it's 2020!

We're in this together and, together, we can do this!

Here's to staying healthy, happy, and hopeful! ๐Ÿ™
We have the perfect rug for today! It's Poisson d We have the perfect rug for today!

It's Poisson d'avril here in France. Basically, April Fool's. The goal is to trick people by pinning fish onto their backs. ๐ŸŸ

So, in true prankster fashion, I'm planning an assault on my kids when they get home from school with these cute crafts from @mmecitronblog (Merci!!)

We learned yesterday that we're going back into confinement. Schools will close again four 4 weeks. My kids were a bit nervous and anxious as numbers are rising, even in children and vaccine rollout is slow.

We're all doing what we can to keep one another safe.

And, that means taking each and every opportunity to laugh. To play. To create fun, lasting memories.

โœจ Moments of Magic! ๐Ÿ’ž

Hence, the ๐Ÿ ๐ŸŸ๐Ÿ !

Cue the mischievous grin. ๐Ÿ˜

Do you celebrate April Fool's? What tricks are you playing today?

My thoughtful uncle, @herbachdenis, sent this to m My thoughtful uncle, @herbachdenis, sent this to me. It's originally from Women Working.

And it so rings true.

As a child, I watched my mother - an immigrant who speaks 5 languages - manage to navigate everything that was thrown at her.

๐Ÿ’ผ A full-time job that often included overseas travel โœˆ๏ธ

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ A family of unique souls who brought passion, drama, and raised voices to our disagreements.

๐Ÿ‘ต Generational trauma as the daughter of Holocaust survivors, immigrants themselves, raised by a single mom when her father died when she was 4.

My mom is a badass!

But, now as a mom myself, I know that what others see in us isn't always how we see ourselves.

I've talked with my mom now, about the challenges. Hers back then. Mine now.

About the tears shed. The deep, often dark emotions.

Most of which where unseen by the outside world.

So, moms, give yourself a hug. And a break.

You're doing so much better than you give yourself credit for.

We see you and we are in awe of all the juggling you are doing. All the love you are giving.

Even in your tough, rough moments, you continue to show up. Continue to care for others. Continue to be amazing.

You are love and you are loved.
This is me celebrating my 1st birthday at the dayc This is me celebrating my 1st birthday at the daycare center I attended. โ
โ
And, that's a quote from Dr. Seuss because today was his birthday. Happy birthday, Dr Seuss!โ
โ
Some of my earliest memories are of sitting on the couch at daycare and at home, on the laps of adults, having his books read to me. โ
โ
When my son was born, my parents gave him a copy of Happy Birthday to You. It's become a family tradition to read every year to celebrate. โ
โ
We have a whole bookshelf filled with his works.โ
โ
But, when I was thinking about his birthday and trying to come up with my favorite quote to share, this is the one that drew me in the deepest.โ
โ
If I could go back and share one message with that little girl. That happy, innocent, adventurous 1-year-old. If I could plant the seed that would grow strong roots and create a stable foundation for her, it would be this quote. โ
โ
And, I would do this for every single child on the planet. โ
โ
Because, if there's one thing I've learned in the 43 years since this picture was taken, it's that we waste way too much time trying to fit in. โ
โ
And believing that we have to fit in in order to feel like we matter, like we're worthy, like we belong.โ
โ
I wish I could have shared this quote with this little girl and spared her so much heartache, so much pain. โ
โ
I share it with her now by embracing it in my heart. I trust that she's listening.โ
โ
She mattered, she was worthy, she belonged from day 1 precisely because she stood out. โ
โ
She, like each and every soul who touches this Earth, is a piece of the jigsaw puzzle of humanity. โ
โ
Every single one of us is unique. โ
โ
We each have our own shape and pattern and we all connect together to form the completed picture. โ
โ
And, when you stand out, it's so much easier to find where you belong. <3
A new favorite mindfulness tool. It's a new week a A new favorite mindfulness tool. It's a new week and a new month! so let's kick it off with #MindfulMonday and this Mellow The Mind tool that I learned from my #kabbalah class.

I've shared this with my 4th and 7th grade children as well as with my preschool yoga students and it really does help to start the conversation when you're feeling triggered by something or someone.

Give it a try this week and let me know how it goes!
Thursday night started the Jewish holiday of ๐ŸŽ‰ Thursday night started the Jewish holiday of ๐ŸŽ‰ Purim.

We celebrate every year by making traditional cookies ๐Ÿช called Hamentaschen.

They're named after Hamen - the villain of the Purim story - and shaped like the hat he wore.

And even though they are delicious and fun to make and Purim is celebrated by dressing up and having a feast, the story of Purim is quite serious.

A queen, Esther, who has to reveal to her husband, the king, that she is Jewish after his consigliere convinces him that Jews are evil and should be hanged.

Esther fasts before going to see the king who had already banished his first wife.

But, filled with love for her, he decides to forgive her for keeping her secret and save the Jews. And kills Hamen instead.

Purim is a holiday that encourages us to look at the masks we wear.

Not these masks: ๐Ÿ˜ท

The invisible masks.

The masks we create to hide our true selves from the world.

To stay quiet and small and "safe". The ones that we build when we try to conform to what we think others want us to be.

But that actually stifles our growth, silences our voices, dampens our souls.

As we made Hamentaschen, we talked about some of our masks. About the burden, the heaviness of carrying them around.

And about how we can have the courage to let them go.

Letting go is hard. But having courage is empowering.

We decided that the best way to have the courage to lower our masks, even a little bit, is easier when you have support, when you have helpers.

And when you know that you get to do it in your own way, in your own time.

Removing masks can feel vulnerable and uncomfortable and scary. But, when you start to do the work, when you see how it changes your life and your relationships, so much weight is lifted! ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’ž

You feel so light that you may even have a second (or third or fourth) cookie without feeling guilty at all! ๐Ÿ˜‹
I used to really struggle with practicing self-car I used to really struggle with practicing self-care.โ
โ
If given a choice, I would have rather washed a burnt pan with a cheap paper towel than practice yoga for myself or take even 2 minutes to do mindful breathing. โ
โ
As a people-pleaser, I had a deeply-rooted belief that self-care was, well, selfish. And selfish = bad.โ
โ
Even though, rationally, I knew that wasn't true. โ
โ
And, I didn't think other people who practice self-care were selfish. โ
โ
Then, recently, I had a giant A-HA moment! โ
โ
I was on a zoom call with an amazing group of soul sisters who encourage and inspire me every time we meet. โ
โ
We were talking about being unapologetically you. About shining your light.โ
โ
And, I thought: these calls FEED MY SOUL! They make me feel like I'm part of something greater than myself. โ
โ
One of my core values is connection. When I feel connected, I feel like I can do anything! โ
โ
Self-care felt selfish because I didn't feel connected when I was doing it. โ
โ
But, SOUL CARE? I could practice SOUL CARE all.day.long!โ
โ
Some moments, it may look like what we traditionally think of as self-care: taking a bath or practicing yoga. โ
โ
Sometimes, it may be playing games with my kids or chatting on zoom with my college roommates.โ
โ
Or working with my incredible clients and students.โ
โ
As long as I take those few mindful breaths and notice how CONNECTED I feel. โ
โ
As a parent, part of our role is to model for our kids how to take care of themselves so they grow up to be happy, healthy adults.โ
โ
What better way than to show them how to nurture and nourish their souls? โ
โ
Step 1: take a pause and notice your values. Notice: what lights up your soul?
Bringing back my favorite way to finish off the wo Bringing back my favorite way to finish off the workweek.โ
โ
We all make mistakes. โ
โ
As Albert Einstein said: "A person who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new." โ
โ
Some mistakes are small. Some are big. But, all of them, even the worst ones, help us grow wiser when we take the time to learn the lessons and make the necessary changes.โ
โ
As a parent, our kids are watching and learning all the time. Self-reflection practices like this one model resilience.โ
โ
So, onto the tough questions:โ
How did you mess up this week? โ
What didn't work out the way you expected or wanted it to?โ
โ
What happened after?โ
What did you learn for next time?โ
โ
I know that's a lot of questions but Einstein also said: "Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning." โ

I'm reviewing my 200-hr integral yoga teacher trai I'm reviewing my 200-hr integral yoga teacher training and I came across this quote from Swami Satchidananda.โ
โ
The Swami says, "There is not only one way."โ
โ
As someone who suffers from comparisonitis and analysis paralysis; who, somewhere along the way, learned that there was a "right" way to do things, this was such an important reminder for me. โ
โ
I am uniquely me.โ
โ
You are uniquely you.โ
โ
We were made to shine our light and find our own way through the twists and turns of life.โ
โ
THERE IS NOT ONE WAY TO walk (or drive) from your house to the store.โ
โ
THERE IS NOT ONE WAY TO eat ice cream.โ
โ
THERE IS NOT ONE WAY TO do warrior 2 pose or to teach warrior 2.โ
โ
There is not only one way to PARENT A CHILD.โ
โ
The beauty of this new world that we are entering into, is that, now, more than ever, we can give ourselves the permission to find and trust our own paths.โ
โ
And to teach our children to do the same.โ
โ
To live consciously, presently, and mindfully.โ
โ
To be YOU!โ

One of my all-time favorite quotes. โ  โ  And on One of my all-time favorite quotes. โ
โ
And one of my all-time favorite grounding messages for those moments when my inner critic rises up and tries to tell me all the ways I've failed as a mother (said in that dramatic Beverly Goldberg way).โ
โ
Your kids don't want your attention 24/7. They just want to know that you're there for them.โ
โ
It's about quality. Not quantity.
Are you the kind of person who has the best ideas Are you the kind of person who has the best ideas when surrounded by water?โ

โ
Water has magic powers. ๐ŸŒŸโ
โ
As we head into the weekend, here is a feel-good activity for any age! โ
โ
Next time you get into the ๐Ÿšฟ shower, imagine the water washing away all your unwanted thoughts and emotions, leaving you refreshed and light. โ
โ
Watch the water go down the drain, carrying all that you no longer need to hold on to.โ
โ
Are you a ๐Ÿ›€ bath person? โœ‹ โ
โ
It still works! Taking a few extra moments to watch the water drain the tub, taking what no longer serves you away. โ
โ
This was always my kids' favorite part of the bath - waving bye to all the dirt and grime and negative emotions!โ
โ
Enjoy!โ
โ
And, if you have read down this far, let me know in the comments: BATH or SHOWER?โ

After almost a year of living through a pandemic, After almost a year of living through a pandemic, I'm hearing from so many parents that they are at their wits' end.โ
โ
๐Ÿ˜ซ They're tired of having their routines shaken, of not knowing what day it is.โ
โ
๐Ÿ˜ซ Tired of not knowing if school is going to reopen, and, while itโ€™s closed, of managing their childrenโ€™s distance learning.โ
โ
๐Ÿ˜ซ Tired of worrying about their familyโ€™s health โ€“ both physical and mental.โ
โ
๐Ÿ˜ซ Tired of the kids whining at them, of having to nagged them to do chores and siblings bickering with each other.โ
โ
๐Ÿ˜ซ Tired of never having time or space to just get just five minutes to themselves.โ
โ
And because they're so tired, they find themselves yelling more than they'd like at their kids. โ
โ
Letting their own inner critic rise to the surface and take control more often than they'd like. โ
โ
I have a simple trick to yell less. It's a tool I started implementing myself several years ago. โ
โ
A tool I desperately needed because I was yelling so much at my kids (and then feeling guilty and sad about it afterwards), that my throat was sore and none of us slept well. โ
โ
This simple exercise has made a HUGE difference in our house. โ
โ
So much so, that I asked my kids how many times I've yelled at them since COVID started and they had blank stares on their faces. โ
โ
"I can't think of any times." My 9-year-old said.โ
โ

Even as a yoga and mindfulness teacher, I need to hear it! โ
โ
And, what I'm learning is you don't need hours and hours of self-care to fill your bucket. Sometimes, all it takes is taking a few deep breaths๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ or blasting your favorite song ๐Ÿ’ƒ .โ
โ
What are some of your favorite self-care activities that you can do in under 5 minutes?โ

This moment right now is only a tiny piece of your This moment right now is only a tiny piece of your journey.โ
โ
Think of all those moments from your past that felt heavy, insurmountable, defeating.โ
โ
Getting a bad grade or not getting into the school of your choice; Missing out on a job opportunity or getting fired; A breakup; A miscarriage; The death of a dear one.โ
โ
Moments that brought tears of anger and frustration and sadness. Pain.โ
โ
What happened next? โ
โ
The pain may not have ever entirely gone away but, for most people, it fades with time. โ
โ
And, you continue to grow. โ
โ
One of the first questions I ask my clients when we start working together is: what characteristics do you want your children to embody as adults, what values do you want to instill in your kids? โ
โ
The answers almost always include resilience and confidence.โ
โ
Yet, when we walk around saying we "feel bad for our children" or "I don't know how we're going to get through this", what message are we really sharing? โ
โ
Not one of resilience and empowerment.โ
โ
Seeing our experiences when things are tough as just one small moment in a lifetime of experiences can take us out of the "woah is me" damsel-in-distress and into our own heroine's journey. Trusting that we'll continue to breathe and grow and adapt. โ
โ
And three things start to happen almost immediately: โ
โ
1) Our brain starts looking towards the future, towards positive possibilities. โ
โ
2) We start to see the difference between what we can control and let go of that which we can't so that we can feel more ease and joy and calm. โ
โ
3) We build confidence and resilience for ourselves and are able to role-model it for our children.โ
โ
It's not easy. And I have moments where I want to curl up and cry or hide under the covers or burn the place down. โ
โ
But, then I remember this image. I give myself the space to feel what I'm feeling and trust that it's only for now. โ
โ
Does this resonate?
Did you ever think about the meaning of Monday?โ  Did you ever think about the meaning of Monday?โ
โ
Monday = Moon Day!โ
โ
As I delve into spiritual practices, I've been learning more and more about the energy behind each day. โ
โ
In ancient cultures, days were not just a sequence to roll through. They didn't dread the start and celebrate the end of each week. โ
โ
Ancient Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, Jews believed that each day had a particular quality, energy of its own. โ
โ
That's why each day is associated with a cosmic element. MOON DAY = Monday โ
โ
My 13-year-old wants me to point out that it's true in other languages. In French, Lundi after LUNE. #thirdculturekid #expatparentโ
โ
The moon is a giant light in the sky. And, like a light, it illuminates that which we need to see.โ
โ
So, on this MOON DAY, take a break. Put your feet up. Relax. โ
โ
Be present in the moment and see what you notice. What gets illuminated for you. โ
โ
BECAUSE YOU ARE SPECIAL, UNIQUE! YOU MATTER!โ
โ
CELEBRATE YOURSELF!โ
โ
What are you going to do first?โ
โ
Me, I'm going to ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ then ๐Ÿ’ƒ ! โ
โ
And, I'll invite my kids to join by asking them how they want to celebrate themselves today too!โ
