When I was pregnant with my first son, I thought I was going to have it all: a beautiful, smart baby and a successful career in a job I loved!

But being a working mom is hard! You try to fill many roles: mom, wife, co-worker, friend. You spend your day You spend your days running around trying to stay on top of your to-do list. And, just when it feels like you have things under control – BAM – the washing machine breaks or your child gets sick and you have to stay home with him. It’s a rollercoaster!

An overwhelming, exhausting, FRUSTRATING rollercoaster!

Somedays you hit your breaking point and something has to give. And, for many of us, the thing we give up is our self-care. We know we NEED to take care of ourselves so that we can take care of others. But, if it comes down to an hour at the gym or an hour baking brownies for a school fundraiser, we often pick the latter.

I finally realized that self-care wasn’t about getting a large chunk of time away for myself. (Don’t get me wrong, I love being able to sneak away for cocktails with my friends or an hour-long yoga class.) But, that, in those moments when the sh*t hit the fan and I wanted to run away from home, having a go-to list of simple and fun tools would break up the tension and helped me more than a long bath (because you never want to get out of the bath when you hear the kids screaming in the background, do you?)
