It was almost a daily occurrence.

An evening theater performance of a show called THE MELTDOWN. Starring my family.

After a long day of work and school, we’d all come home and want to collapse on the couch.

But there was homework to be done, dinner to be made, stories that wanted to be shared.

But, instead of it being done in calm, the exhaustion, overwhelm, frustration that had been building up throughout the day would bubble over. And, inevitably, someone would break the final straw and…

I’d yell. I’d threaten. Some days, I’d even beg.

And then I’d feel sad and guilty that our family wasn’t all sitting around the dinner table smiling and laughing while passing the butter like in some cheesy sitcom. And I’d promise myself I’d do it differently next time.

I’d try taking a deep breath and counting to 10. But, let’s face it, it’s hard to count to ten while kids are screaming at each other across the room and calling for your attention.

Timeouts didn’t seem to work. Time ins didn’t seem to work. And yelling was definitely not working.

Then I learned this ONE trick and, like magic, our lives changed!

I yell less.

    My kids fight less.

      We get to release our anger without hurting others.
